Transcript for Photographer meets couple from viral Yosemite proposal
over this phenomenal proposal photo at tap point in yosemite national park. The photographer happened to capture the moment accidentally and has been trying to reconnect with the people ever since. Please welcome photographer Matthew Dippel. Welcome. We talked about this, when you took this. Tell us how this happened. I was on a road trip with my buddy Josh. We were going from Seattle to L.A. Yosemite was the focal point of our trip. We planned a sunset hike around Taft point. The whole reason I was there is I was waiting for Josh to walk out there. The couple walked out before Josh. At first they were hugging. I thought it was cute. I snapped a few photos. The next thing you know he’s down on one knee. I’m snapping a few more photos and I was like looking around to see if it was a staged thing and they had a photographer and they didn’t. I sprinted over to give the photo to them in person and they were gone. I chalked it up as a loss. You chalked it up as a loss. At what point did it become a mission to find the couple? I wasn’t able to get a good look at everything until I got back from the trip. I uploaded it on my laptop and showed my family. They were like you need to find these people. I was like all right, sure. I uploaded it on all my social media platforms. At that point it hit the ground sprinting. I had different media outlets contacting me and a bunch of people trying to help me find this couple. You found them. I did find them. I found them probably about a week and couple days after the whole search began that they came forward. It was such a coo moment to find them and put a face to the name. Well, I only talked to them on the phone. Do you have plans to meet them in the future? I would love to meet them in the future. They’re pretty busy planning their wedding. It will take some time. We don’t have any solid plans at the moment. I would love for it to happen. We would too. That would be awesome. The couple is Charlie and Melissa. We really would love for you to meet them. We brought them here. You’re going to meet them right now. Charlie and Melissa, come on out! ?????? Hello, Melissa. Hi. Nice to meet you. Charlie, good to see you man. Have a seat you guys. Oh, man. So we have to ask you, we loved the photo when we saw it. What did you guys think when you saw it? It was a gorgeous, breath-taking photo. I mean, the shock. It was insane. It’s such a beautiful picture. You would never expect to be the subject of such a stunning photo. The fact that you posted it online and millions, hundreds of thousands of people shared it and it got back to us. When did you find out the internet was looking for you? Probably a week ago. Did someone flag it to you? It was totally random. I was out with friends in Boston visiting. We were relaxing at the end of the day. On an air mattress. We were scrolling through our Instagram feed. As we did that, I was scrolling down. I saw our photo. I was like, wait, is that us? I had to confirm with her. Were you zooming in? Yes. It matched up perfectly with photos I had in my phone. I googled yosemite photos and a ton of articles came up. After that we found Matt. He was like, babe, this went viral. Charlie, just listening to what you said and — you’re a smart man. You said I confirmed with her. You’re learning. You confirm with the wife. Absolutely. Or the wife to be. Everyone knows you two are engaged. When is the wedding? April 20th of next year. Congratulations. Thank you. We loved the photo. Everyone’s loved the photo. We wanted to do something special for you guys. We actually have a print — I got it. We have a surprise for you guys. Oh, my god. Oh, wow. It’s so beautiful. We want that to go up in your new home. That is gorgeous. That truly looks like something out of a Disney movie. A prince and princess on a mountain top. That photo is so gorgeous somebody else said they wanted to print it, a random stranger. We have other surprises for you. What do we got first? We’ve got canteen bottles, a koozie. We’ve got coffee mugs. Don’t forget your new mouse pad. Oh, my god. When you don’t want anybody to bother you at home — Cheers. We have some coasters. Put your beer on a coaster. When you two are like, hey, honey, let’s do a jig saw puzzle, we’ve got one for you. You can mark your wedding date on that. If you want to cuddle up on your air mattress we’ve got that. If you take a shower and you want to dry off, there you go. Then, you guys, if you want to dress alike, we got you shirts. Awesome. His and hers. This is perfect. We loved it so much we got ourselves shirts. We all know what this means by the way. We’re going to re-enact it for you guys. There you go. Oh, my god. We’re happy you took the picture. We’re happy that you guys found each other. All of you — congratulations on the wedding. Thank you. One last thing, is there like a wedding invite or anything for anybody? We want to extend our invitation to Matthew. Oh, wow. We would love to have you there. I would love to come. Absolutely. You have to be the wedding photographer though. I’m joking. No. No pressure. Matthew, thank you and congratulations to you guys. It was so beautiful. Thank you. We’re lucky it was captured
