Transcript for Possible gas explosion levels house in Minnesota
here this half hour with a house blown to bits. Yeah, the home in a neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota, leveled in an explosion. The homes and businesses next store badly damaged. ABC’s Marci Gonzalez joins us with more on what may have sparked it. Marci, good morning. Reporter: Good morning. We’re told the cause is still under investigation, but some neighbors say they did smell gas just moments before. People there in that neighborhood say the blast was so powerful, it felt like a car crashing through their house and describe it as all feeling surreal like something out of a movie. This morning, investigators on the scene after this massive explosion demolished a home in St. Paul, Minnesota. Surveillance video from a nearby store capturing the moment that ball of fire and debris rocketed into the sky. It’s completely leveled. We’re looking for victims. Reporter: One man inside injured. A crater left where the home he was in once stood. Rescuers finding his feet sticking out of the rubble rushing him to a hospital. The blast rattling the neighborhood blowing windows out of nearby homes. At least two of them now condemned. I heard a big explosion and then I felt the house shake, so I set up and looked out my window because I was sleeping right outside my window, and I seen a big fireball in the sky. Reporter: You can see firefighters sifting through the smoldering debris immediately after. Xcel energy, the company that provides service to the home, telling ABC news that they will coordinate with fire officials on the investigation into the cause of the incident. Gas explosions to blame for devastation in other communities across the country. In September, a faulty hire pressure gas main detonated outside of Boston sparking fires in dozens of homes killing 1 person and injuring 25 others. And in 2015 crews responding to the smell of a gas leak when a police dash cam captured this home exploding injuring 15 people. I think a lot of times people minimize the potential risk to them, and I think this really highlights the fact that this is a real grave danger. You need to get away from any potential gas leaks. Back in Minnesota we’re told at least eight people are displaced and the 80-year-old homeowner injured incredibly stayed conscious through all of that and is now listed in critical condition. Guys. Yeah, Marci, we’re marveling at the fact he survived. It’s incredible. It is. Marci, we really appreciate it.
