And we begin tonight with the winter blast, blanketing millions with snow. Take a look at roads in Missouri. Up to a foot of snow on the ground. State police there responding to more than a 1,000 stranded motorists. More than 700 crashes. At least four fatalities. At the airport in St. Louis, an army of snowplows in overdrive, trying to keep the runways clear and keep delays and cancellations down. Heavy snow expected tomorrow in the mid-atlantic, including the nation’s capital. Rob Marciano will join us in a moment. But first, here’s ABC’s Stephanie Ramos from St. Louis. Reporter: Treacherous conditions proving deadly on Missouri highways. Car after car struggling to get traction. This driver forced to get out and push instead. You see that group of people there. This is the on ramp to the interstate. They have just helped a car around that bend. Each car having a really difficult time. At least four people killed and nearly 50 others injured in weather-related accidents. State highway patrol responding to more than 1,200 stranded drivers since yesterday. It came in fast and hard on us, you know, covered everything up pretty quick. Reporter: All from a ferocious winter storm moving its way across the country. Dumping nearly a foot in St. Louis alone, its biggest snowfall in five years. More than 50 million people still under the threat as the storm barrels east. Weather alerts from Kansas to New Jersey. It’s going to take awhile to clear it and get rid of it. Reporter: Near Kansas City, this truck flipped over on interstate 70, spilling debris everywhere. The storm also wreaking havoc at several airports. This American airlines plane at Columbia airport partially slid off the tarmac with 80 people aboard. No one was injured, but the runway remains closed. In St. Louis, crews are struggling to keep up and keep those runways clear. And Stephanie joins us live now. Stephanie, officials there telling you that this is the worst storm they have ever seen? Reporter: Absolutely, Tom. The airport here in St. Louis has had more than a hundred flight cancellations. The snow has now changed to rain for much of the metro St. Louis area. But hef we snow continues to pound the northern suburbs. And this huge storm is headed east. Tom.
