3 dead, 2 seriously injured in house fire

Authorities say two adults and a 6-year-old girl have been killed and two others were seriously injured in a house fire in New York.

The blaze was reported Wednesday afternoon in a two-story home in East Elmhurst in Queens. About 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was declared under control about an hour and a half later.

Police say an 8-month-old boy and a 42-year-old woman have been hospitalized in critical condition.

Fire officials say the two were found outside the house when firefighters arrived.

The other three victims were inside the burning house. Officials say the girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the two adults, a 30-year-old male and a 75-year-old, died at the hospital.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
