The Latest: Crews find 2 more bodies lost when boat capsized

The Latest on the death of several family members when a boat capsized on a central Indiana river (all times local):

12:40 p.m.

Authorities have found the bodies of two men who disappeared underwater when their boat capsized on a central Indiana river, bringing to four the number of confirmed fatalities in the Labor Day accident.

State Department of Natural Resources Capt. Jet Quillen says the two bodies were found Tuesday morning in the White River. He says the search for a third missing man will continue until sundown.

The men were among seven people who were on the boat Monday night when it capsized. Two people made it to shore. Crews found the bodies of a 6-year-old boy and a 73-year-old woman that night.

The family had been celebrating the holiday with a cookout and fishing trip.

An Indiana conservation officer says it appears none of the passengers on a boat that capsized in an Indiana river, killing two people and leaving three missing, were wearing life jackets when their boat floundered.

Conservation officer Lt. Angela Goldman says life jackets were in the flat-bottomed johnboat seven people were aboard, but authorities believe none of them were wearing the floatation devices when it capsized Monday night on the White River.

A 6-year-old boy and a 73-year-old woman died and three men remain missing. Two passengers made it to shore.

Conservation officers resumed their search for those men Tuesday morning along the river in Morgan County about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Indianapolis.

Goldman says the boat capsized as a large family was ending a Labor Day cookout and fishing trip along the river.

Indiana conservation officers say a 6-year-old boy and a 73-year-old woman are dead and three men remain missing after a boat capsized along the White River in central Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says all seven of a john boat’s occupants were thrown into the river when it capsized Monday night just downstream of a dam near Martinsville.

Some of the passengers made it to shore, but emergency responders pulled a 6-year-old boy and a 73-year-old from the river and they were later pronounced dead.

Crews searched the river for several hours into early Tuesday for three men, ages 63, 32 and 40, who remain missing.

That search was set to resume Tuesday morning along the river in Morgan County about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Indianapolis.
