Transcript for 7-year-old’s fatal shooting a case of mistaken identity: Police
we’ve been following the case of that 7-year-old girl in Houston killed in a drive-by shooting while riding in a car with her mother and her sisters. Anonymous tip now leading to an arrest. ABC’s Marcus Moore in Houston. Reporter: Tonight, Eric black Jr. Is being held would bond, charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes. Authorities originally investigating Jazmine’s death as a possible hate crime, after Jazmine’s family told them they saw a red truck, and this white male in a hoodie at the scene. But now authorities say that description was a case of mistaken identity. We believe now that that red truck and the driver is most likely just a witness. Reporter: Thanks to a tip, first shared with activist Shaun king, investigators now believe black and another suspect opened fire on Jazmine’s family’s car, mistakenly thinking it belonged to someone they had gotten into a fight with at a club the night before. It’s incredibly tragic, and I look forward to going and being able to pursue justice on her be-hatch, because no 7-year-old deserves this. No family deserves this. Reporter: And David, prosecutors say they have recovered the .9 millimeter handgun they believe was used in the shooting at black’s home. Jazmine’s funeral is set for tomorrow. David? Marcus, thank you.
